First Friday Oct. 5: Eat, Drink and Be Scary in downtown York

Get spooky in the city during the Halloween-themed First Friday 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in York. There will be live entertainment, specials and discounts at city shops, restaurants and nightlife hotspots. Here’s an event lineup:

Events:
— It’s the 3rd Annual Beer Festival: Participating downtown businesses will offer local beer tastings.
The Hispanic Coalition hosts a Zumba session 5 to 6 p.m. in Cherry Lane.
— Check out 10 new industrial art pieces on North George Street. Read more.
Growing Up Green, 266 W. Market St., hosts a kids’ costume parade at 6 p.m. and fall activities.
— Bring your pooch to the “Howl-o-ween” Yappy Hour 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the OffCenter Grill at the Yorktowne Hotel, 48 E. Market St. Dog costume contest starts at 5:30 p.m. Snap a photo for our pet costume contest.

Music:
— Jazz in the City returns 5 to 7 p.m. in the Studio at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St. Rev. Dr. Dred “Perky” Scott, Kirk Reese, Steve Meashey, Mac White and Jeff Stabley will perform.
— Rockabilly band Didi Deluxe and The Dirty Devils will play 5 to 9 p.m. on North Beaver Street.
— Students of Homegrown will perform in Central Market, 34 W. Philadelphia St.
— Head to HeidelBean Coffee House at Heidelberg UCC, 47 W. Philadelphia St., for live music and entertainment 6 to 10 p.m. Costumes are optional.
